City Plants, LLC was founded in 1996 by Patty Redenbaugh, a passionate and award-winning garden creator. The company was founded with a desire to make and maintain gardens that evoke deep feelings of appreciation for beauty, nature, art and life. Patty has a passionate commitment to beautify city spaces with gardens that reflect and remind us of the very best in life.

How did you get started with horticultural design? With a degree in literature and a background in sales, I always knew I was creative but never expected to make a lifestyle out of my designs. After watching many of my friends struggle from AIDS, I yearned to find a way to give back to these people and remember their rich lives in a creative way. While visiting a friend in the hospital with the disease my friend expressed to me that the one thing he always wanted was a man’s diamond ring. Not thinking much of this, I went home and started taking my grief out on my garden when suddenly my shovel hit something hard and shiny. To my astonishment, I had discovered and dug up a diamond ring right there in my own garden. It was right then and there that I decided to start my own business: City Plants, LLC and share my design gift with the world.

What is the mission behind City Plants, LLC? Our mission is to create “head turning gardens”. We want to turn people’s heads whether they are a gardener or have never gardened in their life. We love to transform normal spaces into beautiful spaces that embellish the community that surrounds the garden.

Why did you decide to join Registry10? Every single time I go to a wedding I absolutely hate receiving the notice of where the couple has registered because the gifts are so boring and “usual”. Rather than purchase a frying pan for someone, I would much rather give a gift that brings the life out between the two of them. My goal by joining Registry10 was not only add to the unique gifts that couples can now receive, but aid the guests that are buying the gifts with more options and choices from their registry.

What gift do you offer on Registry10? I offer a 1 hour garden consultation for customers. This means they can have myself come in, take a look at their space and I will advise them on what to do with it or what to plant there. People are welcome to plant things themselves, or even hire another company to plant things for them but we will always offer our clients expert advice and professional work through this consultation.
