New Year’s Day has come and gone. I already have reneged on my resolution for 2012, which was to run four times a week. I can only recall one resolution which I actually successfully kept. In 2007, I switched from regular Coke to Diet Coke. Man, I am so deep and compelling! Way to really stretch my limits and work to better myself! I’m still going to strive for an exercise-filled year, but I think that I have a more pressing promise that I need to make for myself: I need to get SERIOUS about this wedding.
Don’t get me wrong, I think about it every single day, but I can’t say that I have been consistent with checking things off the to-do list. I have these short bursts of action, which normally means that I send frantic emails to my bridesmaids asking for help/advice/Xanax. I keep on doing things in a totally backwards sequence. Right now, I am focused on wedding favors, which are arguably the least important detail of all. What I need to be doing is designing my Save the Date cards! If I don’t get my priorities straight, I’m going to end up sending Evites, which really is not the look I am trying to achieve. I am hoping that there are other brides-to-be who are giving themselves this planning whiplash. I can’t be the only one, right? RIGHT?!
All that being said, I am happy to report that we have accomplished one really major task: we hired a photographer! Having a design background, I found myself to be incredibly picky. I looked through countless portfolios, websites, and blogs, and looked at every solicitation email and postcard I received. I was shocked at how few I actually liked. I was looking for a photographer with a modern eye, someone who captured candid shots with a fresh, photojournalistic style. When I landed on Jeff Wojtaszek’s blog, I knew that I had found the right person to capture our day.
We met with Jeff just before the New Year to discuss our wedding plans as they have shaped up thus far and to learn more about his services. The meeting was very fun and relaxing – I know that we will have no problem “hanging out” with Jeff all day. I received some advice that you should make sure that you not only feel comfortable with your vendors, but also like them as people. They are going to be with you for a good chunk of this day, and you will have many touch points with them in the months leading up to the wedding. It’s wise to surround yourself with people who are talented AND fun. Needless to say, Jeff fits the bill! He even graciously tailored a package to accommodate our marathon reception. I am looking forward to seeing how he captures our upcoming engagement session in the Spring and our wedding.
Hopefully, I can build some momentum and will start knocking things off of the list. With the weekend coming up, I hope to spend some time at my computer working on those Save the Dates! Here’s hoping that I can add 2012 to the very short list of “Years that I Kept My New Year’s Resolution” (except for the whole exercising thing).
