Outdoor wedding in New Jersey? Here’s how to plan it like a pro.
Spring and summer are prime time for outdoor weddings—finally, the sunshine shows up in the Northeast, and we’re here for it. If you’re dreaming of an open-air ceremony or reception but not sure where to start (or feeling a little overwhelmed), no worries—we’ve got a few key things to keep in mind to help you plan with ease.

Pesky Bugs:
New Jersey has so much beauty from farmsteads and vast green countryside to its waterfront. However, there are some manageable downsides to taking in nature and those vitamin D rays. Sure, it can be a time of humid days and pesky, uninvited guests – no, not that second cousin once removed kind. We are talking mosquitoes. No one wants to be a feast for bugs with welts on your arms and itching all night. And certainly, a fly in your lavender lemonade — definitely not the garnish you had in mind. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid such a fiasco.
Consider putting out sunglasses, sunscreen, bug repellent, or bottled water for your guests. They will thank you–guaranteed. Oh! And discuss your concerns with the venue manager for anti-bug options. Alternatively, you may want to sprinkle citronella candles around the perimeter and other areas of the reception venue to keep bugs away.

Weather & Plan B:
No matter what the weather forecast will be on the day of your event, prepare for a back-up plan. We have all woken up on those days where the weather was supposed to be sunny and clear, only to find it pouring rain outside. If you’re having your reception at a venue, ask about indoor spaces that are available. If you’re having it in a backyard, it might not be ideal to have to move your graduation party into your basement or living room, but it’s better than expecting everyone to socialize in the pouring rain.

Rentals:
If your dream vibe is an outdoor wedding in New Jersey, lock it up with a tent. Better yet? Find a wedding venue that already has one—it’s giving peace of mind AND photo-ready. You’ll still get that open-air magic, just without the “oops, it’s raining” drama. Some even come with roll-down sides to keep things cozy. Just a heads-up: depending on where you are, you might need a permit to set one up. Always worth checking!
